Some statements of “evangelicals” answered with the gospel
Seeing the title of this topic, some might possibly think that it is something offensive, but that is not the case. The objective of this teaching is not to attack or offend our evangelical brothers. My desire is simply to show the Truth of the Gospel as it is, in an ecumenical environment, of love for the brother and love for the truth.
Jesus Christ said: “The Truth will set you free” Jn 8:32 and it is that Truth that we want to proclaim without comments, interpretations, or additions. We want to proclaim the complete Gospel of Our Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.
If you are evangelical, compare all the quotes that we give in your own Bible, the Reina-Valera, which is the one we use in this topic, and pray that God enlightens you and guides you towards the full truth. If you are Catholic, thank God and pray that you can live as an authentic Christian following the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In this topic you will realize how what many separated brothers proclaim in pamphlets, radio and television is nothing but simply the Gospel according to the “evangelicals”. In the left column you will find the common phrases of many “evangelicals” and in the right what Holy Scripture really says.
They are the 12 truths of the Gospel that as authentic Christians we must know.
The “evangelicals” say:
1.- I am already saved and if I die I go to heaven, I cannot lose my salvation.
The Gospel teaches:
1.- But he who perseveres to the end will be saved” Mt 24:13
The “evangelicals” say:
2.- I am saved by faith alone; neither works nor obedience save us.
The Gospel teaches:
2.- “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, cast out demons in your name, and do many miracles in your name?’
And then I will protest to them: I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of iniquity.”
Mt 7,21-23
“And when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. And all nations will be gathered before him: and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will put the sheep on his right hand, and the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those who will be on his right hand: Come, you who are blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom. prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
Because I was hungry, and you gave me food; I was thirsty, and you gave me drink; I was a guest, and you took me in; Naked, and you covered me; sick, and you visited me; I was in prison, and you came to me. Mt 25,31-36
The “evangelicals” say:
3.- Christ is not present in the Eucharist, that is only something symbolic.
The Gospel teaches:
3.- “I am the living bread that came down from heaven: if anyone eats this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. Then the Jews contended among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
Jn 6,51-52
“And Jesus said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye shall have no life in you. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life: and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, abideth in me, and I in Him. Jn 6:53-56
“And many of his disciples, hearing him, said, This saying is hard: who can hear it?
Jn 6,60
“From this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.”
Jn 6:66
“Then Jesus said to the twelve, ‘Do you also want to go?’ And Simon Peter said to him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.’ Jn 6:67-68
The “evangelicals” say:
4.- You have to confess directly to God, not to sinful men.
The Gospel teaches:
4.- “Then Jesus said to them again: Peace be with you: as the Father has sent me, so I send you. And when he had said this, he breathed and said to them: Take the Holy Spirit:
Whose sins you remit, they are remitted: whose sins you retain, they are retained. Jn 20,21-23
“Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Mt 18,18
The “evangelicals” say:
5.- You should not call anyone ‘Father’, the Bible prohibits it.
The Gospel teaches:
5.- “Then He cried out and said: Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. Luke 16:24
“You know the commandments: You shall not kill: You shall not commit adultery: You shall not steal: You shall not bear false witness: Honor your father and your mother. Luke 18:20
“I will arise and go to my father and say to him, Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.” Lk 15,18
The “evangelicals” say:
6.- Everything is written in the Bible, if it is not written it is not valid.
The Gospel teaches:
6.- “And there are also many other things that Jesus did, that if each one were written by itself, I don’t think even in the world there would be room for the books that would be written. Amen. Jn 21,25
“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world; preach the gospel to every creature. Mark 16:15
“And they went out and preached everywhere, working.” Mark 16:20
The “evangelicals” say:
7.- Children should not be baptized, they do not need it. Furthermore, it must be done by being immersed in a river because Jesus Christ received the Holy Spirit when he went down into the water.
The Gospel teaches:
7.- “Jesus answered: Truly, truly, I say to you, unless someone is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” Jn 3,5-6
And immediately, coming out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit descended upon Him like a dove” Mark 1:10.
The “evangelicals” say:
8.- Mary is a woman like others, there is no need to venerate her because the Bible does not mention it.
The Gospel teaches:
8.- “And the angel entered where she was and said, Hail, highly favored one! The Lord is with you: blessed are you among women.” Lk 1,28
“And it came to pass, as Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud voice, and said: Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.” Lk 1,41-42
“For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed.”
Lk 1,48
The “evangelicals” say:
9.- Mary cannot do anything because she is dead just like the saints, and furthermore the Bible does not say that she can intercede.
The Gospel teaches:
9.- “I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. Mt 22,32
“And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Mark 9,4
“And when there was no wine, the mother of Jesus said to him, ‘They have no wine.’ And Jesus said to her, ‘What have I to do with you, woman? My hour has not yet come.’ His mother said to those who served, ‘Do everything I tell you… And as the steward tasted the water turned into wine.'” John 2:3-9
The “evangelicals” say:
10.- You do not have to say the same words when praying as in the Rosary. Repeating them is not biblical.
The Gospel teaches:
10.- “And (Jesus) went away again and prayed, repeating the same words. Mark 14:39
The “evangelicals” say:
11.- All the apostles were equal. That thing about the Pope is an invention that is not in the Bible. Peter was the same as the eleven.
The Gospel teaches:
11.- “And he brought him to Jesus. And Jesus looking at him, said: You are Simon, son of Jonah: you will be called Cephas (which means, Stone).” Jn 1:42
“But I also say to you, that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. And to you I will give the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Mt 16:18-19
“The Lord also said: Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has asked you to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you that your faith may not fail: and you, once you have returned, strengthen your brothers. Luke 22:31-32
“And he came and found them sleeping; and he said to Peter, ‘Simon, are you sleeping? Have you not been able to watch for one hour?’ Mark 14:37
“And when they had eaten, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?’ Say to him, ‘Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.’ Say to him, ‘Feed my lambs.’
Say to him again the second time: Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me? Answer him: Yes, Lord: you know that I love you. He says to him: Feed my sheep.
He says to him the third time: Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me? Peter was saddened that he said to him the third time: Do you love me? and saith unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; you know that I love you. Jesus says to him: Feed my sheep. Jn 21,15-17
The “evangelicals” say:
12.- The Church does not matter, only Christ saves. It doesn’t matter being in any one. The only thing necessary is to accept Christ, not the Church.
The Gospel teaches:
12.- “He who hears you hears me; and he who rejects you rejects me; and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me. Luke 10,16
“He who receives you receives me; and he who receives me receives him who sent me. Mt 10:40
“Therefore, if your brother sins against you, go and reproach him between you and Him alone: if he listens to you, you have gained your brother. But if he does not listen to you, take one or two with you, so that in the mouths of two or three witnesses every word may be recorded. And if he does not listen to them, tell it to the Church: and if he does not listen to the Church, consider him an ethnic and a publican. Mt 18:15-17
“”But I also tell you, that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Mt 16,18
So, go ahead brother. It is time to decide to accept The Complete Gospel of Jesus Christ as it is and not adapt it according to each person’s taste.
Jesus Christ said:
“Therefore, whoever hears these words of mine and does them, I will compare him to a wise man who built his house on the Rock.”
Mt 7,24
If you are evangelical, that is the invitation from Our Lord. If you are Catholic, that is the invitation from Our Lord. Live it, to be a true Christian.
For my part, as a Catholic, instead of the beliefs of evangelical groups, I prefer the teaching of the Gospel. Although in doing this it happens as the Apostle Paul said:
Have I become an enemy of you for telling you the truth? Gal 4:16
May the Virgin Mary intercede for each of us to be faithful to the Gospel of her Son Jesus Christ and to be faithful to the Church that He founded: The Catholic Church.
